Strengthening Healthcare Lighting
Bright dada Community based organization (BDCBO) is pleased to submit this proposal for the strengthening of health centers in western Kenyan region. Bright Dada in achieving its goals for offering quality and affordable lighting and energy products to health centers in urban and peri -urban areas in rural Kenya leverages on its vast network of stakeholders of public, private sector, institutions and communities.
The Objective
The aim of the project is to strengthen the Access to light for 200 heath facilities across western Kenya. These health facilities will gain access to quality an affordable light and their patients will gain access to higher levels of care. The project will improve the quality of healthcare to an estimated 320,000 vulnerable citizens (an average 1600 people are covered per rural clinic as per World Resources Institute). Bright dada’s are secondary beneficiaries, as they would be assured job and income security thanks to the continuity of BDCBO operations.
- Access to affordable and clean lighting.
- Cost Saving on the energy cost per Kw.
- Livelihood improvement for the bright Dada members.
The Opportunity
The project focuses on ledification of the light source within the health facilities. It’s essential that hospitals have access to energy (in general) and even more so during have clean and energy saving lighting technology installed in the facilities to be able to serve their patients well. Large part of the health facilities in rural Kenya are unelectrified or have unreliable energy access. The health facilities on the grid may still have unconventional light sources installed and in use which are neither cost effective or durable.
- Goal #1: Support in the availability of LED lighting products to the health facilities.
- Goal #2: Train the health Facility employees on the benefits of LED against the conventional lighting.
- Goal #3: Monitor the cost saving on the installed LED lights in the selected health facilities.
