Women empowerment:- LED solution

Problem summary

  • Close energy gap in Kenyan rural areas since mainstream distribution is not reaching tier 2-3 cities, thereby leaving them out of the retail and finance system.
  • Solving ineffective last mile distribution due to slow and expensive deliveries as companies do not set up stock points near retail points in peri urban and rural Kenya.
  • Gender inclusive job creation.

Project structure

Bright Dada is a last mile women entrepreneurship program for clean energy distribution. Women and girls will be trained in key locations in Kenya and provided the infrstructre to create centralised hubs. This will extend the distribution logistics to reach deeper last mile customers for affordable lighting solutions like LED luminaries and/ or solar lanterns and solar home systems. They will be provided basic book-keeping, demand aggregation, customer service and market activation skills. Successful trainees will be provided with a “Brigh Dada” identity to help them be part of a recognizable network that would primarly target under-served, small retail shops in peri urban and rural areas, using bicycles for order capture, which will then be serviced by the allocated hubs (solar kiosks) within the community.

Who we do it

  • Access to clean technology lighting products serving both the on-grid and off-grid customer segments.
  • Improved livelihood opportunities for women by enabling them to be a vital element of a distribution channel.
